The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.
About our Care Neighborhood
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance brings together the leading research teams and cancer specialists of Fred Hutch, Seattle Childrens, and UW Medicine. This extraordinary groups sole mission is the pursuit of better, longer, richer lives for our patients. In support of this mission, SCCA is physically growing the clinic footprint and expanding into Care Neighborhoods. The Care Neighborhood puts the patient at the center of our work and brings the care team together to more effectively care for the patient. In preparation for the expansion, the GI Clinic at SCCA will implement the new model of care in two Care Neighborhoods beginning Spring 2020. The clinicians testing this model will be innovators in their field and will work together to create a better patient and staff experience.
The Team Coordinator is a member of the care service team and acts as a professional liaison for patients and families, care providers, as well as other SCCA departments. The role uses critical thinking skills to facilitate and operationalize complex scheduling requests through heavy use of multiple computer systems.
Perform patient identification verification and verify demographic, clinical, and financial information with patient and/or caregiver as require
Check patients into electronic health record system for all applicable appointments
Schedule all patient appointments related to treatment within the SCCA as well as outside consults and referrals.
Coordinate scheduling with other departments to ensure efficient patient flow
Support the overall function of the department, and may be required to take on additional duties such as cross coverage, special projects, etc.
Work closely with patients, families, visitors, providers and staff to identify needs, answer questions, resolve problems, provide information and follow up (In person and via telephone)
Recognize emergency situations and initiate correct code procedures
Collaborate with the greater GI team to provide effective and efficient patient flow
High school graduate or equivalent
Ability to work independently, organizing, and prioritizing concurrent responsibilities and demands
Ability to navigate computer programs, and use email in a business setting
Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure, time-sensitive, and complex health care environment
Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner in person, on the phone, and in writing
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and empathy in an emotionally challenging environment
Active listening skills
Ability to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
Ability to work independently, organize, and prioritize concurrent responsibilities and demands
Attention to detail to ensure scheduling accuracy
Bachelor's degree (BA or BS)
Previous customer service experience
Previous medical office/hospital experience
Medical terminology knowledge
Prior experience utilizing an electronic medical record system and/or an automated scheduling system

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance was incorporated in 1998 as a separate, jointly governed non-profit that included the cancer programs of three partners. Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is a cancer treatment center that unites doctors from Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, University of Washington Medical Center, and Seattle Children’s. The purpose of this organization is to provide state-of the-art patient and family centered care; support the conduct of cancer clinical research and education; enhance access to improved cancer interventions; and advance the standard of cancer care regionally and beyond. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Northwest, and according to the National Cancer Data Base, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance patients in general have better survival rates than patients treated at other cancer treatment centers.
