The Patient Access Service Specialist (PASS) performs patient admitting and registration activities in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This position is part of a 24/7 Patient Access Team that completes all registration, insurance verification, co-pay collection, admission, discharge and transfers for all emergent and urgent patients.
The PASS are required to provide excellent customer focused and efficient service to both internal and external customers, and represent both Nemours and the ED in a positive, professional manner. They are responsible for demonstrating a commitment to service, organization values, and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times.
Interviews patient and/or guarantor face to face to complete efficient and accurate registration , which includes demographic, geographic and financial information.
Obtains appropriate signatures for consent to treat and financial responsibility which includes interaction with division of family services, social work, nursing supervision and other outside facilities/agencies to define the legal guardian.
Provides patient and/or family with information required by state and federal regulations
Consistently demonstrates excellent, empathetic and knowledgeable customer service skills to internal and external customers including, but not limited to, patients, families, physicians, co-workers, payors, etc
Notifies payors of all urgent and emergent admissions and ensures that required pre-authorizations have been obtained.
Coordinates with nursing staff to timely process patient transfers and discharges
Verifies insurance benefits and eligibity by utilizing all available resources
Is aware and adheres to all State and Federal Regulations including, but not limited to: EMTALA, HIPAA, OSHA, and the Joint Commission
Collects all applicable co-pays and posts to the patients account
Assists with proper patient identification
Other projects and duties as assigned by the lead or manager
This is a casual position with a set schedule of one weekend a month along with a Holiday rotation.
Schedule is as follows: Week 1: Sunday 7a-3:30pm with flexibility to work 7 a – 7:30 pm as needed Week 2: N/A Week 3: N/A Week 4: Saturday 7a-3:30pm with flexibility to work 7a – 7:30 pm as needed
New hire should be flexible and willing to have 4 hours added to each guaranteed 8 hour shift as needed. Additional hours will be assigned as needed by scheduling manager.
