Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Associate's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree). One (1) year of full time experience in a biomedical research laboratory environment including mouse handling and cell culture techniques.
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree) in Biology, pre-med, life sciences or biomedical field. Experience directly related to cancer laboratory research including mouse handling and working with mouse tissues.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Department of Pathology is looking for a full-time research technician to work with a team of research investigators to develop and analyze cancer mouse models. The candidate will interact with several clinical and scientific faculty, students and staff to coordinate our efforts to develop novel cancer therapeutic approaches. The candidate will work as part of the Pathology Translational Research Laboratory and the SB Biobank in supporting developing projects by working in a team environment to manage the experimental assessment of several animal models. The ideal candidate is a team player, has excellent communication skills, and has a passion for learning about cancer translational research.
Working under general supervision, incumbent will perform a variety of routine tasks to support and directly assist the research projects in the laboratory such as preparing operating fields, handling and caring for mice in the testing environment, managing the transfer of tissues between laboratories, and preparation of tissues for processing. Incumbent will work with a standard detailed procedure as directed and must be able to follow written or oral instructions to carry out multistep, complex tasks. Incumbent will care for and maintain equipment, assist in inventory management and attend meetings pertaining to project.
Prepare animals and set up operating room, order reagents, process tissue, prepare tissues for histology and biochemical analyses.
Manage the transfer of tissues between laboratories including communication with other laboratory staff to coordinate transfers.
Maintain inventory of animals, communicate status of animals to PI and team members.
Attend meetings with lab members and PI.
Other duties as assigned.
