JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Technician I LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center Hospital DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy Services WORK SCHEDULE: Nights WORK TYPE: Full Time
JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, fills all physician orders/prescriptions which include all oral, topical, and injectable medications as well as nutrition. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients. Demonstrates proficiency in more than one work area and is assigned to work in a designated area determined by the pharmacy manager when applicable upon completion of internal department requirements.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.
Works under the general supervision of the department supervisor or operational Manager/Director.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: PHARMACY KNOWLEDGE PHARMACEUTICAL KNOWLEDGE COMMUNICATION SKILLS-Demonstrates oral, written, and electronic communication skills. HEALTHCARE KNOWLEDGE-Knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations. GENERAL COMPUTER COMPETENCIES- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers or workstations. TEAM PLAYER- Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED required. .
Must have passed the pharmacy technician certification board’s national certification exam or take and pass the exam within one year of employment.
Must accrue enough continuing education credits to maintain the certification
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work performed in clinical environment-Standard Precautions
Work involves walking/standing for extended periods of time
May be required to work multiple shifts and weekends

GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER: (GMC), located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. GMC, a Magnet Hospital, maintains the region’s only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics. GMC offers an array of highly specialized medical and surgical services, including neurosciences, cardiovascular services, transplantation, women’s health (in the Women’s Pavilion), oncology and orthopaedics.
