St. Joseph's University Medical Center, located in Paterson, NJ, is 650 bed, Magnet-designated academic tertiary care medical center and state designated level II trauma center. It is part of St. Joseph's Health, which has a clinical partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health, and provides post graduate education programs in pharmacy, medicine, and dentistry.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Applicants must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and have completed at least two years of residency training with a PGY-2 in psychiatry/Behavioral Health or equivalent experience. Candidates must be highly motivated, innovative, team-oriented, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide patient centered care with a commitment to teaching, service, and professional advancement. Board certification is preferred. Eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of New Jersey is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
St. Joseph's offers comprehensive services in Behavioral Health and is expanding services in the region. The Outpatient Mental Health Clinics offer a full range of outpatient services, including: psychiatric evaluations; medication monitoring; and individual, group and family therapy for adults, children and adolescents. In addition, we offer services for those with co-occurring disorders in our IT-COD Program. Psychiatric Inpatient Services are provided in a 24-bed adult voluntary unit, which offers a multidisciplinary milieu therapy model of treatment. The Behavioral Health clinical pharmacist faculty member will collaborate with pharmacists, nurses and medical staff to optimize care of patients in our Behavioral Health program and Substance Use Disorder service in inpatient (voluntary psychiatry unit), ED and ambulatory settings (outpatient offices/clinics). The faculty member will be responsible for organizing, developing and participating in clinical and quality improvement activities. Clinical activities include but are not limited to the following: practice under collaborative practice agreement to optimize inpatient and outpatient pharmacotherapy, participate in quality initiatives to reduce readmissions, enhance medication access, participate in 340B program, participate in multidisciplinary rounds, provide interprofessional education, develop policies and procedures, committee participation, perform research and medication use evaluations, perform dosing consults, support Medication Assistance Treatment initiatives, follow hospital procedures for billing for services when appropriate, provide community outreach support, and precept our 4 PGY1 residents and 1 PGY2 ambulatory care resident. Faculty and hospital-based clinical pharmacists work closely together for the delivery of pharmaceutical care. There are currently three faculty members at St. Joseph's University Medical Center in the areas of Critical Care, Emergency Medicine and HIV ambulatory care. There are also several hospital-based clinical pharmacists in internal medicine, transitions of care, ambulatory care, infectious disease, critical care, and pediatrics.
