The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Childrenâs Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) in the Department ofÂ Pediatrics in the Division of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine, are actively seeking a full time faculty member for the position ofÂ Assistant Professor.
The Department of Pediatrics at Childrenâs Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California (USC) seek a Pediatric Pulmonologist with a focus in Cystic Fibrosis Care and Ambulatory Care. The ideal candidate would have an MD or MD/PhD, be board-certified in Pediatric Pulmonology, have clinical and leadership expertise in these settings, and qualify for a USC faculty appointment. The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine has ten full-time faculty members and three part-time attendings. Each faculty member has a clinical and academic profile that is tailored to their specific interests. There are three nurse practitioners who support the clinical enterprise. The Division includes a Cystic Fibrosis Center with two dedicated multi-disciplinary half day clinics per week and a separate CF Related Metabolic Syndrome Clinic, Pulmonary Function and Exercise Physiology Laboratory, Accredited Sleep Laboratory, Sleep Clinic and Positive Airway Pressure Clinic, Bronchoscopy Program, Home Mechanical Ventilation Program, CHiLD Program, Diaphragm Pacing Program, Aerodigestive Clinic and is affiliated with a large chronic care facility.Â The division has dedicated nurse specialists, social workers, dieticians, psychologists, a medical genetics counselor and research support staff. We have an ACGME accredited fellowship program with 6 post-graduate pulmonary fellows. There are two sleep fellows who divide their time between CHLA and the Keck Medical Center of USC. The Pulmonology Clinic receives referrals from the entire southwestern region, with nearly 8,700 ambulatory patient visits per year. The Division staffs outreach clinics located throughout the greater Los Angeles area.Â The Pulmonary Clinic is located on the main CHLA campus and houses the CF and Sleep Centers as well as the general pulmonary clinics.Â The Division manages a busy inpatient service that includes a 15 bed chronic mechanical ventilation unit and a thriving neonatology consult service.Â Members of the Division participate in multi-disciplinary clinics serving children with neuromuscular diseases, sickle cell disease, craniofacial abnormalities, and obesity.Â The Pediatric Pulmonology program is ranked among the top 20 programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.Â Research in the Division is focused on cystic fibrosis, sleep and sleep related breathing disorders, sudden infant death syndrome, home mechanical ventilation, and pulmonary complications of sickle cell disease. The Cystic Fibrosis Center follows 175 patients with CF and 100 with CF related metabolic syndrome. The CF Center is accredited by the CF Foundation and has received a number of national and local awards for quality improvement and for support of the mission of the CF Foundation.Â Â We are the referral center for the Los Angeles County Geographic area for infants identified by the California Newborn Screening program and evaluate 20 infants annually.Â The CF Center is supported by two Nurse Care Managers, two social workers, three registered dieticians, and three respiratory care practitioners.Â The CF Clinics include participation by pharmacologists and a psychologist and close collaboration with gastroenterology, endocrinology, and infectious disease.Â The CRMS Clinic is supported by a genetic counsellor.Â There are 3 satellite centers affiliated with the CF Center.Â Adult care transition is via the Keck Medical Center of the University of Southern California.Â CHLA is a member of the Therapeutic Development Network and has a research team that includes a research coordinator, research assistant, and 1.5 dedicated research nurses.Â Current hypothesis-driven CF research is focused on outcomes for infants and children with the CF related metabolic syndrome and on the CF lung microbiome in collaboration with the California Institute of Technology.Â In addition there are existing collaborations with the Viterbi School of Engineering at USC and with industry centered on innovative diagnostic and treatment methodologies. CHLA is the top-ranked childrenâs hospital in California and among the top 10 in the nation for clinical excellence with its selection to the prestigious 2016-2017 U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll. CHLA is a freestanding, private not-for-profit childrenâs hospital affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC). CHLA's inpatient tower, the Marion and John E. Anderson Pavilion, opened in July 2011 and houses 317 beds. The Keck School of Medicine of USC was established in 1885 and has over 1,200 full-time faculty and is home to over 25 research-oriented basic and clinical academic programs. CHLA training programs include 341 medical students, 168 student shadowers, 90 full-time residents, three chief residents and 116 fellows. For the past 16 years, 96 percent of those graduating from the CHLA Residency Program passed the American Board of Pediatrics exam on the first attempt, well above the national average of 75 to 80 percent.Â Â Â The recruited individual will be expected to represent the Division in CHLA committees, provide patient care, mentor fellows and junior faculty members, participate in medical and graduate medical education, and contribute to the overall academic rigor of CHLA and the Keck School of Medicine. Specific roles for the CF Center include supporting the CF Center Leadership in the following areas: Participate in the maintenance of clinical care protocols in line with CF Foundation Guidelines Review and improve patient outcomes in a continuous fashion Participate in the educational conferences for staff, fellows, faculty, and families Attend annual CF Foundation meeting Provide care for infants identified via California Newborn Screening Attend site visits for satellite centers Interact with the Adult Center Director and staff for smooth and timely transition of patients Contribute to the maintenance of standards for testing in the Pulmonary Function, Sweat Testing, and Microbiology Labs as they relates to Cystic Fibrosis
Clinical Research:Â Participate in industry-funded trials, seek research grant funding from national and private sources. Â Patient Care:Â Provide and direct patient care and supervise trainees providing care for patients of the CF Center and the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology Educational: Teaching responsibility for medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty Â Institutional Citizenship: Participate in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine as an attending pulmonologist and as a faculty member of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California.
