The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Childrenâs Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) in the Department of Pediatrics & Neurology, in the Division of Pulmonology, are actively seeking a full time faculty member for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics & Neurology (Clinician Educator)
The Department of Pediatrics at Childrenâs Hospital Los Angeles and the USC Keck School of Medicine are seeking a board certified/eligible Sleep Medicine physician for an attending faculty position with a joint appointment to the Divisions of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine and Pediatric Neurology.Â The selected individual would function primarily in the ambulatory environment with approximately 50% time in each division.
The Division of Neurology is part of the Neurosciences Service Line (the Neurological Institute) that has been identified as a key product line by the hospital and is currently undergoing rapid expansion with the development of comprehensive clinical subspecialties, enhancement of its research portfolio, expansion of its presence in the Southern California market and buildout of a large, new integrated space. The goal of the Institute is to offer comprehensive and integrated neurologic services in a patient-centered environment.
There is a very active outpatient Neurology Clinic with subspecialty programs in neuromuscular disorders (MDA), epilepsy (including epilepsy surgery, VNS and ketogenic diet), movement disorders (including deep brain stimulation and baclofen pump), neuro-intensive care, pediatric stroke, neurocutaneous disorders, demyelinating disorders, and a multispecialty autism clinic. Our faculty currently provides services to CHLA and five satellite clinic locations within the greater Los Angeles area.Â Outreach clinics are currently being developed and will provide further clinical opportunities. The department has an ACGME-approved epilepsy fellowship program which accepts one fellow annually in addition to an ACGME-approved child neurology residency program in collaboration with the KSOM LAC + USC/University Hospital with three residents per year dividing their time between the two sites.Â Furthermore, there is ongoing robust clinical research within general child neurology and subspecialty programs.
The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine has 9 full-time and 3 part- time faculty members. Each faculty members has a clinical and research profile that is tailored to their specific interests. The Division includes a Cystic Fibrosis Center, Pulmonary Function and Exercise Physiology Laboratory, Sleep Center, Infant Pulmonary Function Testing, Bronchoscopy Program, Home Mechanical Ventilation Program, Diaphragmatic Pacing Program, and is affiliated with a large chronic care facility. Our sleep center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). We perform over 1500 polysomnographies a year and maintain a sleep disorders consultation clinic. We currently have five triple boarded sleep specialists. We have an ACGME sleep collaboration with the KSOM LAC+USC/University Hospital sleep fellowship program with two fellows per year dividing their time between the two sites. The recruited faculty member would have specific responsibilities as part of the sleep center team. The division has dedicated nurse specialists, social workers, dieticians, respiratory care practitioners, and research support staff.
