This position is responsible for providing appropriate support for the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery within his/her scope of practice and credentials as set forth by Nemours and the state of Florida. This includes but is not limited to: Interviewing patients, obtaining and recording health histories, completing physical and developmental assessments, diagnosing health problems, managing the health care of those patients for which he/she has been educated, providing health care teaching and counseling, initiating referrals, maintaining health records and providing consultative services as needed, first assist in operating room, writing admission, pre and post-operative and discharge orders, accepting after-hours phone calls from patients and from hospital nursing personnel, treatment of pediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department and
dispensing medical advice in accordance with existing patient treatment polices. Procedures to include but not limited to: fracture reduction, casting, joint dislocation treatment, wound care and cast closure.
Provides care to pediatric patients with acute or chronic illnesses, with a patient/family centered care focus. Elicits comprehensive or focused/interval health history(ies). Performs complete or focused physical examinations. Orders, performs, and/or interprets diagnostic or screening tests. Orders and interprets radiographs and ultrasounds within the PA scope of practice. Develops and revises treatment plans. Initiates, monitors, alters, or orders medications related to conditions or illnesses being treated within applicable divisions. Orders IV fluids and additives. Refers clients to other health care professionals and agencies as appropriate for specialized services, including but not limited to: other medical subspecialists, physical and occupational therapy, nutritional counseling and management, special education, growth and development/behavioral counseling. Develops or approves in-school management plans for patients as appropriate. Makes dietary, activity/exercise, counseling, education and health promotion recommendations within the PA scope of practice. Initiates any other measure/procedure for which the Physician Assistant has been trained, depending on patient’s condition and judgment of the physician and the Physician Assistant. Documents the above activities in the Electronic Medical Record. Complies with the HIPAA Regulations. Complies with OSHA/Safety Regulations. Adheres to Nemours Customer Service Standards and Standards of Behavior. All other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of Accredited PA program, current Florida Licensure as a Physician Assistant
BLS required, PALS preferred
Orthopedics, Orthopedic surgery and/or Pediatric experience preferred
