Brief Description of Duties:
The Department of Biomedical Informatics is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral fellows in software systems research and development applied to translation and clinical biomedical research. Successful candidate will do significant open source software development as well as software systems research which is motivated by and will support several cutting-edge projects.
The projects are funded by the National Cancer Institute, and are carried out with multidisciplinary, multi institutional teams. The projects are developing biomedical imaging software and methods to support translational and clinical pathology and radiology imaging studies. Work in these projects encompasses Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, database integration and web development and requires reliable and efficient software that can automate data analysis and management without close human supervision and that can work with a variety of input data. The end results will be innovative systems that can learn to recognize and ingest different types of exceptionally large databases, analyze them, and provide useable information to researchers from across the US and the world. These projects also span clinical decision support and precision medicine involving application of deep learning and other machine learning methods to predict response to treatment and optimize decision making in diagnosis and selection of treatment strategies. The new software tools will be used by national or international researchers to process huge amounts of image data to reveal common and uncommon characteristics and relationships that should lead to evidence-based treatment and management of cancer patients.
The software development and research will focus on micro services and web technologies, high end databases, cloud computing technologies and software integration and testing. You must be able to work and contribute in an environment that weaves healthcare, medicine, subcellular and molecular data imaging and other data types, with artificial intelligence, machine learning and web-based architectures. Your work will have a direct impact on cancer research and will be widely known nationally and internationally through collaborative participation in large-scale projects and open source software efforts. We collaborate extensively with well-known research groups from prominent institutions and draw upon the first rate technical and scientific resources available at Stony Brook University and our collaborating institutions.
Develop advanced software systems and applications that will support solutions to complex technical problems. Possess knowledge of relevant development environment and protocols for software development and methodologies.
Adapt Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, database integration and web development technologies to be used for big data analysis. Research and develop machine learning algorithms for use in software and hardware applications. Maintain up to date knowledge of current technological standard, equipment, and practices. Identify and suggest optimization and features to improve system performance.
Manuscript writing for journal and conference publications. Oral presentation during lab meetings. May attend conferences and seminars.
Serve as technical expert in testing and troubleshoot the system by effectively adapting multiple software options from inside-out and user perspective.
Other duties as assigned.
