The Division of Weight Management and Wellness at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the Department of Pediatrics, University of Pittsburgh is recruiting a scientist outside the tenure stream. This program, under the leadership of Silva Arslanian, MD, is focused on investigating and treating obesity associated comorbidities in children including pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, sleep apnea, and cognitive functioning among others. This search is for an epidemiologist whose research aims to explain variations in childhood growth patterns, and the relationship between sleep and energetic behaviors and childhood obesity. The ideal candidate for this positon would be an energetic scientist with a prior track record of excellent research in sleep and the application of Quantile Regression to study energetic behaviors, genes and the shape of body mass index distribution of youth. A strong background and expertise in the integrated relationships between sleep, dietary intakes and physical activity in childhood is required. The long term goal for this position is to establish a program of biobehaivoral research to test how behaviors and genes combine to affect body composition and the development of obesity during adolescence. The ultimate objective of such a program will be to help inform childhood obesity prevention. A successful candidate will be an MD or PhD and have a record of publication in this area as well as other factors indicating strong potential for academic productivity, extramural fudging, research mentorship/teaching, and programmatic leadership.
