The Department of Pediatrics is seeking Coding Coordinator to join our team in a full time position. Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing coding support mainly for multiple pediatric specialties under the direction the Coding Manager in the Department's Revenue Cycle Team.
Coordinate and review all Pediatric encounter forms from clinical practices, including diagnostic procedures and surgeries for accuracy in coding.
Expected to code practices in a timely manner as not to interrupt or delay the divisional charge lag.
Responsible to track/document any issues any issues that arise and compile a list for corrective action to ensure improvement in coding processes is implemented.
The coordinator will be a resource for physicians, managers and staff of their designated practices in regards to coding efficiently and should always be up to date on current coding guidelines.
Must remain current with all changes to Pediatric (specialty) coding and billing through participation in trainings throughout the year from such entities as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the New York State Department of Social Services.
Maintaining ongoing education will be expected.
Other responsibilities include utilization of the TES system, Allscripts and understanding pre-billing review and monitoring of non-billable charges within the Division/Department.
The coding coordinator will be expected to always exhibit a team-player mindset, attend regular staff meetings and manage all their responsibilities in a timely manner or as communicated to them.
The Coder will also cross cover other coders and support other specialties as needed.
Other administrative or miscellaneous duties as appropriate.
This position is located in in New Jersey.
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
Knowledge of Medical terminology
Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Must be a motivated individual with a positive attitude and exceptional work ethic.
Ability to follow through, work independently, and handle tasks simultaneously.
Ability to set priorities and exercise appropriate judgment.
Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and follow through on the completion of projects in a timely manner is essential.
Functional knowledge of basic computer operation and keyboard functions.
Well versed in the following applications: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
Organizational skills and excellent communication skills are required.
Should be organized, thorough, maintain good records, and able to work independently.
Should have basic computer skills and be able to use Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point. Should have 2 years of financial background.
