This position reports directly to the Academic Personnel Manager and will serve as key support for the staff human resources unit in the Department of Pediatrics. The incumbent will be responsible for staff personnel transactions, staff recruitment, including developing position descriptions, and will serve as the backup department Ecotime timekeeper. This position will also train, supervise and direct divisional Administrative Assistant positions and activity.
Previous Human Resources experience.
Leadership skills to recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, resolve problems and conflicts and build an effective service-oriented team environment.
Organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload and meet deadlines, develop and carry out project assignments in an efficient and timely manner, under pressure of deadlines and frequent interruptions, and meet conflicting deadlines.
Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals at all levels within the organization to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, and to foster and promote the goals of the organization.
Experience using but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, internet, human resources, timekeeping systems and etc.
Experience working with and maintaining confidentiality in payroll, personnel and other sensitive issues.
Supervisory experience or completion of supervisory certificate.
Experience working independently and as part of a team.
Experience using analytical and critical thinking skills to research and interpret data and policy, contribute to solutions, forecast the impact of potential actions, develop logical conclusions and/or recommend solutions.
Investigative skills to elicit information needed to clarify inquiries and requests.
Professional skills to handle sensitive or difficult situations diplomatically and to work effectively and sensitively with constituents from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
Working knowledge of UC Path, Kuali, Aggie Travel, Aggie Buy, University payroll policies and forms preparation.
Knowledge of human resource principles and practices and to interpret, understand, and apply University human resource policies and procedures, including but not limited to UCD P&P Manual, Academic Personnel Manual, Personnel Policy for Staff Members, collective bargaining contracts, Worker's Compensation, Family Medical Leave Act, University policies relevant to sexual harassment, discrimination in employment, employment of foreign nationals near relatives, and pertinent federal, state, immigration and naturalization laws, and private regulatory agency rules and regulations.
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
