Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, under the direction of the NICU Medical Director and Division Chief, and the protocols established by the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine will be responsible for the complete care of NICU patients at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children on a rotation basis. The NNP will function in a role equivalent to a neonatal fellow/frontline clinician. A minimum of 40 hours per week with additional time required to fulfill responsibility of the position. Variable hours of duty (i.e., ad, evening, night and weekend shifts) may be necessary. Twenty-four/seven accountability to the patient/family, nursing and medical colleagues for one’s expert knowledge, judgment, and/or directing patient family care.
Skills & Abilities:
The NNP will function under the supervision of one of the neonatologists to provide complete care of all patients in the NICU and function in a role equivalent to that of a neonatal fellow/frontline clinician.
Training & Education:
Incumbent required to have completed a master’s level course in an accredited nursing school as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP). This person will either be board eligible or board certified by NCC. The NNP will be licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The NNP will assist in the training of medical students and residents, along with assisting the maternal/child nurse educator in the inservicing of the nursing staff.
Strong previous NICU – Level III experience required.
Precepting of advanced practice nursing students, medical students and residents, and other health care providers.
The incumbent must be board eligible or board certified by NCC. The NNP will be licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A DEA license is required for prescriptive authority.
