Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director, oversees operations and workflow within the department. Develop procedural protocols. Supervisors possess strong analytical skills and an understanding of scientific principles to perform various tests in the analysis of blood, body fluids and tissues as ordered by Healthcare personnel.
Acts as a clinical resource to the general staff by providing leadership, direction and guidance. Precisely and accurately, orders, performs and evaluates technical procedures in the different subsections of the clinical laboratory department. Receives, processes, and distributes specimens appropriately and in a timely manner.Properly stores specimens for further testing, as needed.
Ensures training of new employees and students. Ensure competency of team on off shifts and re-educates as needed. Maintains equipment and supply inventory.Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies (i.e. attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, and patient confidentiality) and procedures. Maintains knowledge and practices current regulatory guidelines.
Prepares and participates in processes relating to regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CAP and AABB. Follows best practice for infection control in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.

A Bachelorï¿½s Degree and ASCP-MT or equivalent.
5+ years of job-related experience required. Prior Supervisory experience preferred.
ASCP-MT or equivalent registration. BLS certification required.

Maintains accuracy with regards to validating lot number for department specific tests.Ensures proper preparing, storing, dispensing and periodic evaluation of all reagents to assure accuracy and precision of test results.
Creates section staffing schedules and responds to request for time off. Manages calls-outs and staffs according to volume. Utilizes time and resources efficiently and effectively to best meet the needs of the department. Organizes and prioritizes responsibilities and work flow. Accepts responsibility for other departments in the absence of other section supervisors.
Performs laboratory analysis and interpret results. Verifies critical lab results by repeat analysis and specimen recollection where appropriate. Promptly notifies patient care personnel.
Operates automated or specialized equipment and provides training as needed.
Has the ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in dealing with broad procedural and technical problems. Implements quality assurance measures, documenting remedial action taken for variances.
Recognizes instrument malfunction, quality control problems, and abnormal or variant patient results. Takes appropriate action and documents accordingly. Ensures proper operation and timely maintenance of equipment and instrumentation. Performs instrument calibration and maintenance. Participates in proficiency testing.
Reviews the work of the technologists, providing them with instruction, professional guidance and expertise in the area of specialization. Provides technical assistance in the development of new procedures.
Participates in the peer interview process and candidate selection.

13.Supervises section personnel, including but not limited to performance management and counseling, performance evaluation, scheduling, and training.
14.Serves as a resource for troubleshooting. Notifies technical support services immediately in the event unable to correct malfunctions.
15.Monitors analysis turn-around-times, identifies areas for improvement, and offers resolutions.Reviews section comparison, linearity, quality control, proficiency testing, and maintenance records and addresses areas of concern appropriately.
16.Identifies inefficiencies and inaccuracies, responding appropriately and making recommendations for resolution.Actively participates in department/facility performance improvement activities.
