The Child Life Specialist position involves providing support in a variety of forms, to help children minimize the anxiety of health challenges and / or hospitalization, increase understanding and coping skills, and continue their typical growth and development. Includes the promotion of effective coping through play, self-expression activities, creative arts, and age-appropriate medical preparation and education. Partners with providers, nurses, social workers and others to meet the unique emotional, developmental and cultural needs of each child and family.
EDUCATION: Require Bachelor’s degree in family and child development, child life or related field from an accredited college or university. Internship in Child Life. Supervised by certified Child Life Specialist. Child Life Certification or eligibility to sit for exam.
EXPERIENCE: Clinical experience in Child Life Program
This part-time position is for a Certified Child Life Specialist to provide services in the pediatric emergency room and intensive care unit. Weekends and holidays required, 2nd shift. Experience preferred.
