Radiation Therapist PRN

| The Radiation Therapist PRN is responsible for administering radiation therapy treatments according to the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist and under the direction of the Medical Physics, Dosimetrist, and/or Cancer Center Manager. Cares for patients from adult and geriatric age groups. The Radiation Therapist PRN maintains a clean and orderly work area and ensures that it is properly supplied, ensures equipment and accessories are in proper working order and notifies appropriate personnel for repairs, responds to inquiries/calls regarding procedures and communicates equipment problems or pending exams with appropriate staff. Attends departmental and facility meetings, chart rounds, and required courses/ modules; performs pertinent duties in the best interest of patients, personnel, and the facility; and may assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the designated supervisor. Executes a planned course of radiation therapy according to physicians orders; uses all prescribed equipment and accessories for radiation therapy appropriately 100% of the time; verifies the mathematical accuracy of the prescription and is able to recognize computation errors consistently; documents details of administered patient treatments and daily charges accurately; and observes clinical progress of a patient undergoing radiation therapy and notifies the Radiation Oncologist immediately at the first sign of any complication. Verifies the treatment dose, fields, and frequency chart for physician's notes, precautions, and patient consent forms; administers radiation therapy; performs simulation and portal films; ensures that treatment records are properly completed; utilizes technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner; and completes charges and treatment documentation in electronic medical record. The Therapist works with supervisor/manager/director on work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; participates in the modality specific QA/QC program and ensures compliance with regulations and has a working knowledge of procedural coding and billing. The ideal Radiation Therapist PRN candidate is able to perform high quality radiation therapy procedures, able to effectively administer first aid and use emergency cart and demonstrates and maintains current knowledge, continued education and skills appropriate care for the following age groups (specific to department): newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult and geriatric. The ideal candidate can perform tasks independently, without need for routine Radiologist or management oversight, able to ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times, providing courteous service, and remaining professional, reviewing Press Ganey scores and developing action plans when required, able to maintain a calm and helpful attitude and take appropriate and reasonable steps to resolve issues and able to serve as preceptor by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives. Completion of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy. A Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy preferred.
