Division Chief, Pediatric Cardiology

| Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, Omaha, in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics at The University of Nebraska College of Medicine is recruiting for Division Chief of Cardiology. The division is thriving clinically and academically with 21 faculty cardiologists, 3 cardiac surgeons, and growing numbers of APP and nursing team members. This special opportunity has unlimited potential to lead the research and educational endeavors of the cardiac program. The clinical opportunity is exciting with the expected opening of the new Hubbard Center for Children hospital building which will house a 32-bed variable acuity cardiac unit. The clinical skill set of the applicant should be one of significant experience in cardiology, but that expertise need not be in any specific area. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding experiences as an educator as well as significant academic productivity. The commitment to administrative roles within the division, the hospital and the department of pediatrics will be sizeable. Given the significant proportion of fellows, junior faculty, and early mid-career faculty, mentorship and guidance in academic advancement will be required of the successful candidate. The Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Heart Center at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center provides fetal, neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult care to those with congenital and acquired heart disease. The cardiac surgery team of three faculty members performed 526 cases in 2020. The catheterization/interventional team performed 514 procedures in two new, state-of-the-art Siemens systems each of which is hybrid compatible. Other measures of activity of the division include 11 outreach sites in in several states, over 10,000 echocardiograms, 330 CT and MRI studies, and 9300 clinic encounters annually Additionally, the division has active programs in transplant/heart failure, adult congenital heart disease, and electrophysiology. In 2020, four new faculty were added, hailing from the University of Colorado, University of Illinois, The Ohio State University, and Vanderbilt. Children’s Hospital & Medical Center is the only full-service, pediatric health care center in Nebraska, providing expertise in more than 50 pediatric specialty services to children across a five-state region and beyond. Children’s is home to Nebraska’s only Level IV regional NICU and the state’s only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. Opening in 2021, the new Hubbard Center for Children will be home to an additional 100+ patient beds, an expanded NICU, a dedicated variable acuity Cardiac Care Unit, a new Cancer & Blood Disorders Unit, expanded surgical space, an expanded Radiology and Emergency Department and more. In 2017, an extraordinary partnership between Children’s Hospital and the University of Nebraska Medical Center resulted in the establishment of The Child Health Research Institute with the goal to become a world leader in child health research. The CHRI provides funding and infrastructure for clinical, basic science and translational research. With a population of nearly one million, Omaha offers all the amenities of a big city with the warmth of the Midwest. The area is rich in arts and cultural activities and is home to a world-class zoo that appeals to children and adults alike. Greater Omaha has an outstanding educational system of public and private schools and is home to numerous universities and colleges. In addition to the many collegiate sports, Omaha hosts the Olympic Swim Trials, the Olympic Curling Trials and the College World Series.
