Manager Patient Care Services- Pediatrics, PICU & Peds ED

***Manager incentive offered for this position. Relocation Assistance is also available.*** TMC 's Pediatric Department is a 33 bed unit with all private rooms. Our PICU is a 12 bed unit with private rooms. We have multiple rooms that are utilized as video epilepsy monitoring rooms. We care for newborn infants to young adult patients with diagnoses that range from respiratory illness/failure, medical patients and orthopedic surgeries including scoliosis, fractures and congenital repairs to cranial surgeries, diabetics, transfers from Nursery ICU (for home transition teaching) and the Mother/Baby Unit. All nursing staff is PALS certified and take an EKG class. Parents are allowed to be in the room 24/7. We round bedside with an interdisciplinary team: physicians, nursing, social work, case management, pharmacy, and other ancillary departments. We believe and live: family centered care! The newly remodeled Pediatric Emergency Department is designated as a certified pediatric advanced prepared emergency center, consisting of 14 private beds. Our department is located in between the inpatient pediatric unit and the Pediatric ICU, which facilitates a great working relationship amongst the pediatric service line. In our department we see approximately 30,000 patients a year with a wide range of chief complaints from sore throats and lacerations to SI/HI, overdoses, fractures with reductions at the bedside, respiratory distress and full codes. All nurses in the department are dedicated pediatric nurses and are required to have BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPI and ENPC Certifications. All RNs are required to have 8 CEUs a year to maintain our designation. SUMMARY: This Manager will oversee our Pediatric unit, Pediatric ICU & Pediatric Emergency Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages staff; interviews, hires and trains; evaluates employee performance; deals with performance problems as appropriate; delegates work assignments effectively; manages operations for quality 24/7 patient care. Assists in managing department budget. Designs, with agreement from Director of Nursing (DON), or Director of Behavioral Health Nursing, and implements the specific staffing plan (Acuity) and daily, shift-by-shift staffing grid. Monitors patient acuity/staffing through the bi-weekly productivity report and takes appropriate action. Provides safe environment for patients and caregivers, compliant to EOC rules and all regulatory requirements. Facilitates development of unit specific standards of care with realistic and measurable patient care outcomes. Provides orientation for the medical staff to Nursing Services. Promotes continuity of patient care by supporting case management activities; acts as a resource to direct care providers when support services are in conflict with patient care needs. Promotes an optimum environment in which the patient care team can accomplish mutually developed goals. Investigates patient complaints and/or incidents, initiating corrective and/or disciplinary action. Maintains an ongoing evaluation of customer service to ensure that systems, policies, and procedures are convenient to those being served. Ensures compliance with requirements of federal, state and community agencies, regulatory authorities, and hospital policies and procedures. Selects and monitors preceptors in development of their role to facilitate new grad hires incorporation into the unit staff. Ensures the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs for staff. May provide education planning, documentation, and record keeping for assigned unit(s). Serve as the liaison to internal and external pediatric care committees, internal departments, referral hospitals, Adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication. Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies and standards. Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of relevant nursing or applicable healthcare experience with mastery of the role and competencies for assigned area required; evidence of leadership, teaching and interpersonal skills, and documentation of professional development. LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current RN license permitting work in the state of Arizona and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
