Position Summary

Assists the nursing staff and patients with basic care needs, implementing orders, and evaluating care for various patients within the facility. Reports directly to the Charge Nurse and Clinical Director of the unit. This position works in conjunction with other members of nursing service, ancillary services,m physicians, patients, and families. It collaborates with various members of the healthcare team to ensure quality of care across the continuum. Requires the ability to be self-directed and quality focused. Interpersonal communication skills are a necessary function of this position. Will cross-train as a patient care technician.

Identifies and communicates safety concerns to the unit staff in the appropriate time frame per protocol.

Qualifications -

High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) and 1 year relevant experience

Physical Requirements/Strengths needed & Physical Demands:

• Light Work category requiring exertion up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and uses negligible amounts of force to move objects.

• Occasional: Lifting under 35 lbs: Raising and lowering objects under 35 lbs from one level to another

• Occasional: Carrying under 35 lbs: Transporting an object holding in hands, arms or shoulders, with help of coworkers or assistive device.

• Occasional: Bending/Stooping: Trunk bending downward and forward by bending spine at waist requiring full use of lower extremities and back muscles
• Occasional: Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching or maneuvering self, patient and equipment simultaneously while working in large and small spaces
• Occasional: Climbing: Ascending or descending stairs/ramps using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
• Occasional: Kneeling:Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees.
• Occasional: Crouching/Squatting: Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.Reaching above shoulders: Extending arms in any direction above shoulders.

Department Summary:

Vanderbilt University Medical Center TempForce was created to connect temporary talent to all areas of VUMC. TempForce places diverse and skilled personnel to departments across the Medical Center.

Shifts:

This position allows self-scheduling, shifts will be offered in 4-hour increments for all locations, and staff may sign up for multiple shifts per day. Hours and days of week vary by location
