Overview

Fairview Health Services is looking for a CPC Instrument Processing- to support our busy Operating Room at University of Minnesota Medical Center West Bank Campus and Masonic Children's Hospital, located in Minneapolis, MN. For more information on University of Minnesota Medical Center West Bank, click here . The West Bank has 15 operating rooms, 1 EP Lab, 1 Cath Lab serving an average of 36 cases per day, 24/7.

  • 80 hours per two weeks
  • Day/evening rotation
  • Weekends as needed

Responsibilities/Job Description

Duties may include;

Reviews and interprets O.R. surgery schedule on an on-going basis to determine priority of surgical instruments needed.

  • Ensures instruments are available and ready when needed.
  • Assembles instruments to the quality triangle of being 100% complete, sterile, and on time.

Responds to emergency requests for supplies and instruments.

  • Assists in locating site-specific instrumentation.

Maintains OR Sterile Stores and specialty service instrument inventory

  • Track instruments using automated surgical tracking program

Decontaminates CPC and site specific instrumentation and equipment.

  • Prepares and uses solutions per manufacturers instruction.
  • Follows OR written policies and procedures.

Sterilization of OR instrumentation

Serves as a resource to surgeons, nurses and other medical personnel.

  • Works closely with co-workers and functions as a team.
  • Communicates between shifts and with supervisors and managers for efficient operation and problem resolution.
  • Communicates instrument and supply inventory needs.
  • Cleans work environment, equipment, and puts away instruments.
  • Follows department and system policies and procedures.

Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.

  • Partners with patient/care-giver in care/decision making.
  • Communicates in a respectful manner.
  • Ensures a safe, secure environment.
  • Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs.
  • Modifies clinical interventions based on population served.
  • Provides patient education based on an assessment of learning needs of patient/care-giver.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Central Service/sterile processing, or Surgical Tech Program including training in instrumentprocessing and assembly within the last 3 years, or two years work experience in assembly and sterilization of hospital operating room surgical instruments.

Minimum Experience

  • No years of experience required if a graduate in a Central Service or Surgical Tech program. Two years workexperience in assembly and sterilization of hospital operating room surgical instruments if not graduate from a program.

Preferred Experience/Certification

  • Three to five years experience in sterilization, decontam and processing of surgical instruments.
  • CRCST certification or ability to obtain in the future
