Driscoll Health System (DHS) seeks a strategic, collaborative and dynamic leader to serve as the Vice President of Physician Services (VP). This is an exciting opportunity for a leader with strong experience in group practice leadership and ambulatory network strategy to join a successful and growing independent pediatric health system.
Headquartered in Corpus Christi, TX, DHS has been a leader in pediatric care since its inception in 1953. DHS is anchored by Driscoll Children's Hospital which is a 189-bed pediatric tertiary care center with more than 30 medical and surgical specialties. DHS also includes a multi-specialty medical group, urgent care centers, an after-hours facility, a health plan as well as numerous collaborative relationships with regional providers. The health system serves a 31 county area with plans of growth, outlined in its strategic plan approved by the Board of Directors. On a daily basis, physicians and patients are transported to Driscoll by ground and air to ensure the children of South Texas receive the best treatment possible. Guided by the strategic principle of “more care for more kids,” DHS is focused on increasing service offerings and access to high quality, coordinated care. The organization has recently begun planning for continued expansion and growth across the Rio Grande Valley with a plan to build a new hospital scheduled to open September 2022. The hospital will serve a community which has a population of one million across a 100 mile region. The eight-story, 176,000 sq ft. facility will be comprised of approximately 135 beds and 450 employees.
Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President of Physician Services will be responsible for providing overall system leadership to a physician group comprised of approximately 140 providers. The VP will work in collaboration with system leadership to develop and execute an ambulatory strategy to enhance outreach and grow services, while ensuring high quality care is delivered in a cost-effective manner within a fully integrated healthcare delivery system. The VP will work alongside colleagues to design compensation models and lead the provider recruitment process. It will be critical that the VP is able to build strong relationships with providers based upon trust and mutual respect as well as gaining a quick appreciation of the market dynamics to identify opportunities for future growth and integration activities.
The ideal candidate will possess a customer service orientation and be a strong communicator able to build consensus among various stakeholders. S/he should be innovative and metrics driven, while also sensitive to the needs of the community and providers. Candidates should have a track record of success achieving strong financial, operational and quality performance and a passion for pediatric healthcare.
