The Laboratory Supervisor will provide administrative, scientific, and technical oversight and support to designated sections of the Clinical Laboratory as shown on the organizational chart, in collaboration with and under the authority of the administrative director. He or she is responsible to have a general working knowledge of the theory of all methodologies within the scope of service assigned and have skills necessary to ensure regulatory compliance is met and serves as technical consultant for assigned areas. He or she will work together with the administrative director to supervise physical, financial and human resources effectively and efficiently and will collaborate with other laboratory supervisors to contribute recommendations for strategic planning. He or she will participate in laboratory rounds each day and provide at the bench support to staff where indicated and appropriate. Individual will serve as a role model for professionalism. Schedule is dependent on patient and laboratory need and includes on-site supervision of and off-site consultation for technical staff. Laboratory and Corporate Compliance, as outlined by the OIG and CMS, is an important aspect of our laboratorys environment. Each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of, and behave in accordance with the Laboratory and Medical Center Compliance Plans. Patients served at Cook Childrens Medical Center range in age from newborn through the adolescent period. Additionally, adults are occasionally served. Specific instructions appear in the procedure manuals.
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or an appropriate biological, chemical or physical science from an accredited program.
Minimum of five (5) years experience performing laboratory testing in a clinical setting to include those tests classed as waived, moderate or high complexity and four (4) years of supervisory experience preferred.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification
Candidate must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent nationally recognized certifying agency.
*This position does not supervise any patient testing, but rather pre-analytical. This position will supervise a collection department for the outpatient lab draw stations. The preferred candidate will need testing experience and a MT/MLS background. The position itself does not include testing.*
