An independently contributing IT professional within the Database Administrator family with expert-level skill and knowledge in two or more disciplines that support Cook Children’s infrastructure. Jobs in this family are responsible for developing, testing, maintaining, installing, and/or deploying database-related technology. In addition, they are responsible for the development of standard architectures, procedures, and practices that promote security and technical excellence within the IT environment. This role provides consulting to other IT team members on the application of specific data and technology standards, and serves as an ambassador to other departments throughout the organization. Must be available for support by pager or telephone 24 hours per day x 7 days per week. Disciplines include: Database Administration, Performance Tuning, Data Modeling, Configuration Management, Cloud Computing, Application/System Integration, System Administration, Data Integration, Scripting/Programming, and Data Quality
Bachelor’s degree with five (5) or more years of work experience as a database administrator, database developer, programmer, systems analyst, or systems engineer. OR Nine (9) years equivalent work experience as a database administrator, database developer, programmer, systems analyst, or systems engineer.
Degree in computer science, engineering, or information systems preferred.
Previous experience in healthcare IT preferred.
Deep knowledge in two or more areas related to SQL database administration, including: backup and recovery, database maintenance, performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, Azure SQL, database security, and SQL programming.
Experience writing and optimizing SQL code – reading and understanding an execution plan.
Knowledge of capacity planning.
Understanding of operating system concepts such as user and group ownership and file permissions, file system/volume group configuration, etc.
Knowledge of PowerShell.
Ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedures.
Familiar with HIPAA and other regulations that impact hospitals and clinics.
Able to exercise independent judgment and take action.

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification
One of the following: Microsoft or equivalent third-party certifications required: MCSA SQL 2016, Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate.
