Cook Children’s Medical/Surgical PICU, in Fort Worth, Texas, is currently recruiting for a full-time Pediatric Critical Care Specialist to join our Critical Care Medicine Department. Candidates must be board certified/eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, be licensed/licensable to practice in Texas, and have superior clinical and interpersonal skills. Each intensivist on our team contributes to the unit and the hospital through quality work, committee participation, and/or program development. While research is not a requirement, there are opportunities for clinical research available through our Research Administration Office.
Our Level I Pediatric Intensive Care Unit consists of 43 PICU beds. We will grow to 49 beds by the end of 2021 with the addition of 6 beds dedicated to contagious infections. The Intensivists provide 24/7 in-house coverage, partnered with experienced acute care pediatric nurse practitioners. Our team admits approximately 2200 patients per year, and over 25 pediatric subspecialties actively support the PICU. We care for a diverse patient population including kidney transplant, bone marrow transplant, and neurosurgical patients. We collaborate with the pediatric surgical team in care of trauma patients, and our hospital is designated a pediatric Level II trauma center. Cook Children’s hospital has an active ECMO program (VV and VA) and has consistently been named an ECMO Center of Excellence.
Cook Children’s Hospital has an active NeuroPICU within our unit that admits approximately 600 patients per year. We have a dedicated Neurocritical Care service that includes teams from Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neuroradiology, Rehabilitation Services and Critical Care. Each intensivist on our team participates as an active member of the Neurocritical Care team.
Of note, our Cardiac ICU is a separate department, and this position will not include rotation through the Cardiac ICU.

In addition to the main Fort Worth campus, other Cook Children’s locations include multiple regional specialty clinics, urgent care centers, neighborhood clinics, primary care offices, surgery centers and home health offices. In 2019, Cook Children’s expanded to provide services to families in Prosper, Texas. To date, services offered include primary care, ambulatory surgery, urgent care, specialty care, imaging and outpatient laboratory services. A medical center and retail pharmacy are scheduled to open in 2022.
