Provides consultative care and instruction for a select group of patients requiring the skills of a RN specialist. Designs and provides

educational programs. Designs and provides staff development and student education programs that prepare staff to assist in providing

care and education to patients. Monitors, evaluates and revises patient, staff and student education programs related to care of patients.

Demonstrates behaviors, practices and activities associated with the educator/faculty role. Participates in BHS committees and

community service activities. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related

duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Masters degree related to clinical

specialist or education role.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years clinical nursing practice. Demonstrated competency area of expertise.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Prior teaching experience

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Based on Specialty

Certificate in clinical specialty

Certificate as a Diabetes Educator by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE)

preferred on hiring and required within two years of hire.

Certificate in Child Birth Education

REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR):

BLS required for all positions-Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center or the Military Training Network
