Your Role:
In your rewarding role as Audiologist II, with special expertise in the assessment of vertigo, dizziness, and chronic unsteadiness, you will evaluate, and in some cases (i.e., in patients with positional vertigo) treat, and counsel patients with vestibular disorders causing dizziness and postural instability. Additionally, you will collaborate with other health care teams to meet patient care, outcomes, and system improvement objectives. The applicant must be committed to the VUMC mission of reflecting the diversity of the populations we serve in our teams, programs, and communications. A diverse workforce is essential to creating innovative solutions and reflecting a culture of inclusivity. You will also contribute to the clinical education of doctoral students.

Vanderbilt Medical Centers offers world-class hearing and balance care to patients of all ages. Our clinic, in conjunction with top-ranked academic programs and nationally recognized research labs, provides our patients with the latest test techniques and therapies. We work closely with the Departments of Otolaryngology, Neurology, and primary care in our local and regional community to provide comprehensive care and treatment options to our patients.
Position Shift:
In this role, you will work standard, day-time hours, Monday-Friday; travel to existing and new satellite locations will be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Completes full diagnostic balance assessments using the appropriate testing method and equipment for the patient type, and reason for referral.
- Completes hearing assessments using the appropriate testing method and equipment for the patient type, and reason for referral.
- The audiologist formulates and/or implements a treatment plan to address deficits and patient/family areas of concern.
- Completes documentation and billing in a timely manner.
- Provides education/consultation to patient, family, health care team and community.
- Enhances and impacts our knowledge of the nature of communicative and related disorders.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:
VESTIBULAR AND AUDIOLOGY PATIENT EVALUATION: Obtains pertinent dizziness case history information to appropriately assess the patient. Administers appropriate balance and hearing assessments as needed based on clinical protocol. Interprets the results of the assessment and their significance to the patient, family, referring physician and other members of the health care team. Demonstrates knowledge and skills development and adaptability in the assessment of vertigo/dizziness and hearing across the age span.
VESTIBULAR AND AUDIOLOGY TREATMENT IMPLEMENTATION: Includes objectives based upon the results of the assessment (e.g., Epley Maneuver for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo; BPPV). Selects interventions which produce the desired outcomes within the time frame projected. Modifies the treatment plan if patient/family is/are not receiving benefit. Incorporates educational needs for patient and family. Includes patient and family in all aspects of care. Respects roles and professional boundaries of others.
PATIENT DOCUMENTATION: Demonstrates proficiency in documentation practices. Documents in the appropriate templates and utilizes only approved abbreviations within patient documentation. Meets institutional standards for quality and timeliness of documentation.
AUDIOLOGY PATIENT EDUCATION: Communicates functional impact of assessment findings, treatment interventions, diagnosis, and disease process. Adapts communication to the level of understanding of the patient. Determines comprehension and need for repetition and/or revision of methods.
