Bellevue is the flagship hospital of the NYC public hospital system. It is a general hospital with a pediatric emergency service, outpatient clinics and inpatient/ICU for pediatrics. There is also an Adult and Child & Adolescent inpatient psychiatric service.
Provide medical preparation and support to pediatric patients receiving blood labs or other medical procedures in the outpatient pediatric unit.
Provide support and preparation for patients in dental clinic; offer continuity of care by following patients in pre-hospitalization program.
Provide medical preparation and support to pediatric patients and their families within the pre-hospitalization program.
Provide informal developmental observations and screening
Provide activities and interventions during group playroom sessions.
Monitor and maintain environmental and patient safety.
Documentation and statistics.
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from a college recognized by the University of the State of New York with at least twelve semester hours in Child Psychology, Elementary School Education, Child Development or Social Group Work; or, 2. Graduation from a Senior High School and four years of experience in nursery school teaching, kindergarten teaching or in working with groups of children in a home, school or other setting; or, 3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
4. Departmental Preference - Must have prior experience and/or training in "child life."
