In compliance with applicable State regulatory authorities, COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for all MSK staff. Staff are considered fully vaccinated upon completion of a primary vaccination series for COVID-19 (i.e., one dose of a single dose vaccine or a final dose of a multi-dose vaccine series). Exceptions from the COVID-19 vaccine requirement are permitted for those who request and receive an approved medical or fully remote exemption. Requests for medical exemption can take up to two weeks to review. Vaccination or an approved medical exemption is required to start work.

*Staff working at a MSK New Jersey location must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, which includes having completed the primary COVID-19 vaccination series and booster once eligible as mandated by New Jersey State. All New Jersey staff not yet eligible for a booster must receive a booster within 3 weeks of becoming eligible as a condition of continued employment at MSK.

Note: Individuals are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster two months after completion of a primary vaccination series for COVID-19. Because vaccine-induced immunity can wane over time, MSK continues to strongly urge all staff to get a COVID-19 booster as soon as they become eligible to maintain their protective immunity for a longer period.

Job Description

Post-doctoral fellowship investigating mechanisms of immune tolerance. Work in the Brown laboratory addresses how the tissue microenvironment and microbiota shape immune development, and the mechanisms by which distinct antigen-presenting cells instruct tolerance to self and foreign antigens vs immunity to pathogens. Recent work from the lab defined the cell types and mechanisms that instruct peripheral regulatory T cell development and tolerance to the gut microbiota. This work uncovered a novel lineage of antigen-presenting cells, including two subsets of extra-thymic Aire-expressing cells, enriched during early life. The investigation of a novel lineage of tolerogenic antigen-presenting cells represents an exciting area of investigation with important translational implications. As such, this field will provide a fantastic opportunity for a highly-motivated and ambitious young scientist to establish their future independent and competitive research niche. The Brown Lab is a highly collaborative and supportive environment, committed to training a diverse group of scientists. The post-doctoral fellow will be supported in fellowship applications and receive support for professional development activities, training courses and attendance at conferences.

The Brown Lab is located in the state-of-the art Zuckerman Research Center, in the heart of the Upper East Side, New York City. The ZRC is embedded in the Tri-Institutional Campus, encompassing Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Weill Cornell Medical College, and the Rockefeller University. The post-doctoral fellow will be part of this dynamic community of scientists, with frequent networking and career development opportunities. Dr. Brown is an Assistant Attending in the Department of Pediatrics, and work in the lab transitions between mechanistic studies in experimental models and translational human immunology studies. Dr. Chrysothemis Brown is an Assistant Member, MSK, and Assistant Professor, Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. Dr. Brown received the NIH/NIAID DP2 New Innovator Award (2022), Josie Robertson Investigator Award (2021) and V Foundation Pediatric Scholar Award (2022). As a Parker Senior Fellow, Dr. Brown is also supported by the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy.

The ideal candidate should have a passion for science and be creative, adventurous, and collegial in their approach to scientific discovery.

• PhD in immunology, molecular biology, genetics, computational biology, or similar, with broad knowledge of the field
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work collaboratively
• Outstanding critical thinkingDesirable qualifications, experience and competencies:
• Substantial experience with in vivo mouse models, high dimensional flow cytometry
• Experience with analysis of single-cell genomics datasets (scRNA/ATAC-seq)
• Experience in genome editing/mouse genetics and molecular biology
• Experience training lab members and enthusiasm for methods and tool development
