Position Summary: The Echocardiographer (cardiac sonographer) is responsible for obtaining high quality recordings of ultrasound images of the heart and related structures for the cardiologist who will interpret the examination. This is a technical position requiring a highly skilled operator with knowledge of the various types of ultrasound procedures. Work situations require clinical interpretive knowledge, independent judgment, initiative, and ingenuity in performing procedures. External contacts include patients, family members, and physicians. Internal contacts are basically within the work group. The Float Echocardiographer will be trained and assigned to a Tier Line. All PHI hospital-based campuses to include and not limited to inpatient and outpatient services. This will include Cardiovascular Admit Recovery Units which are procedure focused. Specialty care Echocardiographer competencies are required and will primarily float between MHS Hospitals. Once solid competency and performance is established in one of these areas, Float Echocardiographers are expected to expand their competencies in other departments as needed, through ongoing training determined by the Float Manager. Specialty trained Pulse Float Pool Echocardiographer may be put into dual competencies such as ORs, Hybrid Rooms and Procedure areas (Cath Labs).
Minimum Requirements: 1 year of experience Tier 2 requires pediatric certification along with 1 year of experience in Pediatric Echocardiology Previous experience as an Echocardiographer preferred
Education/Licenses/Certifications: Registered or registry eligible with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers with a specialty Registration of Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers (RDCS). If RDCS registry eligible, must receive RDCS certification within 12 months of hire or transfer. Registered with Cardiovascular Credentialing International as Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) may be substituted for RDCS with the expectation of obtaining ARDMS registry within 12 months of hire or transfer.
