The role you’ll contribute:
The School Nurse oversees the School Health program for the designated school in Gordon County School District, Georgia. The nurse in this position will monitor and maintain regulatory compliance according to evidence-based practice.Responsible for development and expansion of the school health program including but not limited to delivery of health services to all school-age youth, reporting, regulatory compliance and growth of the program through school health initiatives.Participates in the implementation and evaluation of student care, ensures the health, comfort and safety of students and adult staff onsite. Manages illness and control of infectious diseases; implements immunization programs, provides school-based lectures on personal, social, and health care education and assists teachers in dealing with children who have special healthcare needs such as asthma, diabetes and epilepsy, as examples.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Delivery of health services to all school-age youth
Assessment, formulation of nursing diagnosis, established nursing goals and individualized care plans and evaluation of student progress
Assessment and implementation of individualized plans for students with special needs and follow student IEPs
Providing Georgia required grade level vision, hearing, body mass index and scoliosis screenings.
A triage approach to sick and injured students
Monitor student immunization records; administer immunization surveys and ensuring compliance with Georgia Department of Health requirements
Administer medications to non-self-directed students according to State Education guidelines
Documenting and observing students’ ability to achieve self-direction and provide treatment as prescribed by the primary care provider
Assessing students’ health suitability for attending school field trips
Managing and collaborating with school staff in addressing medical emergencies
Monitoring communicable diseases and conditions
Monitoring and reviewing student health records
Data collection and reporting of services rendered
Maintaining a health record for every student
Collaboration with school staff, parents, students, and external partners regarding school health issues
Actively engaged in all emergency/safety drills
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English
Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
Demonstrated leadership abilities and strategic thinking
Must have strong diplomacy and collaborative skills, must be a strong facilitator and have the ability to work independently as well as within a matrix organization
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with at least an Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate of a Licensed Vocational Nursing program.
At least 3 years nursing experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Five years of nursing experience
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Current RN or LPN license in the state of Georgia
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
American Heart Association BLS Instructor or Red Cross Instructor Status
